Alison offers research, training and retreats for individuals, organisations, and communities. She works on the basis that there is a deep, unequivocal connection between individual, organisation, social and ecological wellbeing.
All that is offered is based on the underlying values of Integrity, Kindness and Compassion, Resilience and Sustainability, Effectiveness and Efficiency.
Alison has a wide range of professional experiences. She began her career as an engineer in the space industry, having done a maths undergraduate degree. Later in her engineering career, she specialised in fluid systems analysis for the aerospace industry. She has a master’s degree in Sustainable Development, and a PhD in Social and Environmental Psychology. She is a qualified yoga teacher, trained in mindfulness with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, and trained in compassion meditation with Frits Koster and Erik van den Brink. She is a Mental Health First Aid trainer.
Present Minds was formed in 2012 and became a limited company in 2017. It is run by Alison, with support from others who offer their specialist skills.
If you wish to help your staff increase their mental health literacy, and improve their management and responses to mental health difficulties, Alison can offer appropriate training.
Given Alison’s background as an engineer, she specialises in offering mental health training to engineering, science and construction companies, but has also delivered training in media, financial services, banking, and IT companies.

Currently, most training is offered on-line. Face-to-face training can be arranged, with due consideration of health and risk management.

Alison’s previous research areas have included: mindfulness, addiction, wellbeing (in particular, wellbeing in older age), and sustainability.
Alison has offered yoga, meditation and compassion training for individuals, both privately and in companies for over 20 years. Alison has trained to offer Yoga, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living. She can bring her experience to offer bespoke courses to meet the needs of individuals and organisations, and is delighted when there is a request to include spirituality into training.
Alison runs retreats and other sessions to facilitate connecting to practice. She is currently running weekly Zoom practice sessions.
