Mental Health First Aid

Adult Mental Health First Aid

This is a 2 day training that qualifies delegates as Mental Health First Aiders. It includes:

  • Background to mental health
  • Signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions
  • What to do if someone is suspected of having mental ill-health
  • Knowing how to approach someone in a crisis situation
  • Understanding factors that can contribute to good mental health
  • Awareness of professional support services
  • Ways to reduce stigma and discrimination
  • Looking after our own mental health

Practicalities:

Courses are for between 8 and 16 delegates, and training days are ideally held within 2 weeks of each other. Sessions involve a mix of presentations, discussions, and group work activities. All delegates receive a comprehensive course manual and a workbook.

Present Minds can advise on internal recruitment of delegates, boundaries and restrictions, and on integrating/disseminating/structuring the training outcomes into the wider business and policies.

Adult Mental Health First Aid Champion

This is a 1 day mental health training that qualifies staff as Mental Health Champions. It includes:

  • Background to mental health
  • An understanding of common mental health conditions
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health
  • Skills to support positive well-being

Practicalities:

Courses are for between 8 and 16 delegates. The training involves a mix of presentations, discussions, and group work activities. All delegates receive a course manual and workbook.

Adult Mental Health First Aid Lite

This is an introductory 3 hour mental health awareness training. It includes:

  • Background to mental health and common mental health conditions
  • Considering factors related to stigma and discrimination
  • Relating to people’s experiences, and supporting someone in distress
  • Looking after our own mental health

Practicalities:

Courses are for up to 25 delegates. The training involves a mix of presentations, discussions, and group work activities. All delegates receive a course manual.

Mental Health: What We Need to Know

This 90 minutes workshop introduces staff to some of the issues around mental health. It will be tailored to the needs of your organisation, but can include:

  • What do we mean by mental health (good and poor)?
  • How prevalent is mental illness, and what is the impact of it (personally, on a family, on a company, on the NHS)?
  • Why do we talk about mental health at work?
  • What do we know about risk and protective factors for mental health?
  • Top-level signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Investing in our personal mental health – what can we do, and can we commit to doing it?
